Hot Stone Massage: Benefits, Who Should Avoid It, and Why Chandigarh Loves It in Winter
Warm basalt stones, warm oil and a cold Chandigarh evening — here is what hot stone massage actually does and who it suits.
When the Chandigarh winter arrives and the evenings drop sharply, one therapy fills our book faster than any other: hot stone massage. It is our most booked hour all year, and here is why.
What is a hot stone massage?
Smooth basalt stones are warmed and placed along the spine and in the palms. The therapist then uses them as an extension of their hands during a warm oil massage. The heat lets muscles soften quickly, so medium pressure feels deeper and more soothing than usual.
At Buddha International in Sector 26 it is ₹2,499 for 60 minutes. Details on our hot stone massage page.
Why people book it
Clients most often tell us they choose hot stone because:
- They feel cold and stiff, especially in winter.
- They carry tension in the back and shoulders but find deep tissue too intense.
- They want the most relaxing hour we offer.
- They are celebrating — it is a favourite in the couples room.
Massage is for relaxation and muscle tension — it is not a medical treatment, and we do not make medical claims.
Who should avoid it (or ask first)
Please tell us before booking, and check with your doctor if unsure, if you:
- Are pregnant.
- Have diabetes with reduced sensation in the skin.
- Have high or low blood pressure, or a heart condition.
- Have varicose veins, a skin condition, a recent injury or sunburn.
Is it too hot?
No. The stones are warmed to a comfortable temperature and are never left still on bare skin. If anything feels too warm, say so and it changes immediately.
Hot stone or deep tissue?
If you have specific knots and like firm pressure, choose deep tissue. If you want warmth and deep relaxation with medium pressure, choose hot stone. Not sure? Read Swedish vs deep tissue vs Thai.
