How Often Should You Get a Massage? A Simple Guide by Lifestyle
Weekly, monthly or only when you are stressed? A simple, honest guide to how often you should get a massage, based on how you live.
"How often should I come?" is one of the most common questions we hear at our Sector 26 spa. There is no single right answer — it depends on how you live, what you want from massage, and your budget. Here is a simple guide.
If you work at a desk all day
Neck, shoulder and lower-back tension builds up week after week. Many desk workers find that once every two to four weeks keeps it manageable. Deep tissue or Thai massage are the usual choices. More in our guide to desk-job neck and back tension.
If you train at the gym or play sport
During heavy training, every one to two weeks is common; in lighter periods, once a month. Deep tissue suits recovery days; Thai helps with mobility.
If you mainly want to manage stress or sleep better
Once a month is a good rhythm for most people — a fixed hour that is just for you. Swedish or aromatherapy massage work best.
If it is an occasional treat
That is completely fine too. Birthdays, anniversaries, after a big project — a hot stone or the couples room makes the occasion.
Signs you are due for a massage
- Your shoulders are creeping up towards your ears.
- You wake up stiff or sleep badly.
- You feel tense or irritable for no clear reason.
- You have had a long drive, a long flight or a long week.
